Tennis Canada generously offered the Doug Philpott Inner City Children’s Tennis Fund a suite at the Rogers Cup on Monday August 7th for the evening program. The Philpott Board of Directors decided to dedicate this evening to the Philpott tennis instructors and supervisors. Starting with the longest serving staff members we were able to reach out to most of our instructors and include them in what turned out to be, despite the rain delay, an exciting evening of tennis. We watched Venus Williams defeat Irina-Camelia Begu in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The second match allowed us to watch Canada’s own Francoise Abanda. She played well but lost to Lucy Safarova 6-4,6-4. The evening was a perfect combination of good companionship and wonderful tennis. Thank you Tennis Canada and the Philpott Board of Directors for making the evening possible for us.
